Cage
Hell Destroyer Record Release w/ Agent Steel
Friday May 25, 2007
The Jumping Turtle
Review and pics for ThrashKreator
Cage and Agent Steel on the same stage; quite the bill for a small club on the outskirts of San Diego. They are two bands that need little introduction to those who are fans of the old school. The occasion for this show is the return of Cage with the release of “Hell Destroyer”, the bands first album since 2003’s “Darker Than Black”, which held high critical acclaim and topped several “Best of” lists for that year (my own included)

Guitarist Doug Grandon & Vocalist Tom May
Interview by Luxi Lahtinen
The ´Psychotic Death Metal tornado´ Mass Psychosis has been re-animated back from the dead! The band is already heading towards you to mangle and crush you. Scared to death already? Good…
Mass Psychosis started under the Psychosis moniker as long ago as 1987. So when you are counting carefully, the band has reached its 20-year birthday this year, being in a sort of ´on/off´ -mode within their respectable long existence for the last few years. During two decades Mass Psychosis have managed to record one demo, a 7” EP and a couple of albums - and according to the words of one of founding members of the band, Doug Grandon, they have new material ready for at least 5-6 albums.
Find more about Mass Psychosis´ current situation (amongst other things naturally, too) via this interview that I recently conducted with both the band´s guitarist Doug Grandon and vocalist Tom May.

Interview by Arto Lehtinen (with additional questions by Jani Koskela)
Death Metal used to rule the earth in the late 80's and the early 90's when several brutal bands emerged from the abyss to spread their own lethal stuff. Although bigger names were rolling all over the metal map, the underground scene was huge and vital. Demos were traded and underground magazines published articles and interviews of several brutal death metal bands. One of the underground pioneers of the death metal genre was definitely Asphyx hailing from The Netherlands. The band's raw, brutal and above all nihilistic music appealed to a number of death metal freaks. The band got more attention when the former Pestilence growler Martin Van Drunen joined for a couple of albums. But the inflamed chemistry and disagreements led to the premature demise of Asphyx. However the core members of Asphyx didn't give up and went on to form Soulburn by recruiting Wannes Gubbels from the mighty Pentacle. After all the name was chosen to Asphyx. After the last Asphyx disc, ON THE WINGS OF INFERNO, Asphyx was laid to rest. In 2007 Asphyx has returned to crush the cenotaph again. Therefore it was an excellent opportunity to have a chat with both Wannes Gubbels and Bob Bacghus about the reunion and other topics...

The 8th of May 2007 House Of Culture Helsinki Finland
Review & Pics by Arto Lehtinen
The metal gig series sponsored by The Headbanger’s Ball of The Finnish MTV continued when the hotter than hell name Trivium arrived at Finland with the legendary Annihilator and the newbie group Sanctity. The gig was originally supposed to take a place in the prestigious Nosturi club, but due to excessive ticket sales and the massive success of trendy Trivium the whole package had to be taken to a bigger venue in Helsinki. The Nosturi club is a real idealistic asskicking place for all kinds of metal gigs, but The House Of Culture ain’t the most suitable venue for these kinds of events as the construction of the concert hall creates a terrible echo tormenting the ears and causing pretty distorted sound making the concert and listening experience more than unpleasant.
