Epica Interview By Rhiannon Marley
2nd February 2012
Simone Simons is taking no prisoners. Well, no male ones anyway. “Most of the time, people don’t think there’s ‘more’ behind a pretty face. They think you might be stupid, or that you don’t have an opinion, or a high IQ… But I believe myself that women have the same potential as guys, and can also lead…” Isaac Delahaye almost squirms. His self-consciousness at the ‘glamour with grey matter’ eggshell is comically amplified because he’s the lone chap, stuck between four walls with three ladies. “I’d better watch my words!”, he laughs nervously, “I’ll just say, ‘I totally agree!’” Ell-Oh-Ell.

Anvil
Sellersville Theater
Sellersville, Pennsylvania
January 31, 2012
Review and photos by Infamousbutcher
Anvil has gotten a bit of a second career since their documentary ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL hit theaters and later VH1 Classic in 2009. Prior to the documentary, my only knowledge of Anvil was the song Forged in Fire, which Benediction covered on their killer 1992 EP Dark is the Season. Over the last two years I’ve seen Anvil four times and I’ve got to say they are one of the best live metal acts around! It’s a terrible shame these guys never caught on because they are great performers with more talent than dozens of bands that “made it”. I think of them as a cross between AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and early Metallica, so in other words I love ‘em. |

Avatar – Vocalist Johannes Eckerström
By Kirsty Birkett-Stubbs
Leading a merry dance between melody-strong structure and darker vocals, rather than crushing
Toes, Avatar’s Black Waltz has all the right moves. Getting beneath the album psyche vocalist Johannes Eckerström tells how only a little coaxing was required to bring out the shady side...

My Ruin @ Scala, Kings Cross, London
21st January 2012
Review by Alan Hicks
The music industry is well known to be a minefield for bands, many splitting at any one of the many obstacles that confront an act on its journey from local pubs to larger venues.
Some artists seem to have the proverbial kitchen sink thrown at them and My Ruin have definitely had their fare share of problems, the latest being a record label promising the earth but delivering less than nothing.
My Ruin and front woman Tairrie B in particular are made of sterner stuff than most though, meaning they climb back on the saddle and try even harder, which is good news for us on this particular night, the second date of a UK tour.
