Now we all know that the whole French black, doom metal scene has really started to pick up over the years, with amazing bands such as Deathspell Omega who really pushed it to the limits but also with bands like BLUT AUS NORD who gave this already evil sound a much darker side to it, moving more into the doom and out of the death metal.
But in comes SITUS MAGUS and wow!! A completely new band whose line up escapes me (really I’ve tried looking) this band has appeared from the primordial ooze to give the world of metal a hit the balls. They’ve taken the French flag for metal and driven it into the skulls of others with their heavy yet chilling album Le Grande Oeuvre.
There are very few times we get to hear such immense riffage.
The way its used in this metal opera is mind numbingly good, followed by the haunting sounds from the keyboards but collaborated well with the pounding drums in the back, but keeping up appearances with the mentioned bands above but keep it more obscure and giving a Norwegian black metal vibe along with it, especially in the vocals.
This amazing album is done in the style of a breatheless one piece opera, but recorded in five stunning movements, it’s safe to say I really like this album and definitely recommend it to everyone, now, go on, stop reading this and download this motherfxxker!!
