There’s nothing that makes me happier than a thick ol’ slab of bleak metal (a far better term than Blackgaze), which means that we can’t really be sure if a band is doing their job right, should I really be enjoying something that is bleak, grainy, oppressive and depressing as fuck? Well, whatever, I do. Having only formed this year, this duo have taken no time in throwing together this three track demo which blitzes away into an almost hypnotic blur (strangely a good thing) that brings you under its spell.
It is only once the demo has finished and the last note has long since rung out that it evokes within me a feeling of sadness, this kind of bleak metal is all over the place at the minute, every man and his ghoul seems to be toying with this primal, yet sophisticated sound and at present Laster cannot stand up to the calibre of more refined acts. It is without doubt, however, that any subsequent release will build upon this, hopefully straying slightly from this now well trodden path, and I look forward to what comes next.
Oh, and before I forget, this also came out on tape, which is awesome if you think that is more kvlt, or useless if like me nothing that you own would even know what to do with a tape.
