The thought of a Death-Doom supergroup featuring ex-members of Electric Wizard, Ramesses and Unearthly Trance makes me feel all excited. Images of them churning out the kind of sounds that send shivers down your spine, like a leviathan dragging itself through the dank, swampy depths, seeking out its prey come all too readily, but in reality it’s quite a letdown.
Sure they lumber along at 1mph (sometimes it felt like they were even going backwards) and do all the things you’d expect of them, but that’s the problem, they’re not doing anything they haven’t already and that is incredibly frustrating, especially when they could have taken a stab at becoming game changers.
Like all albums that a label will release there is nothing technically wrong with anything that they’re doing and they’re a sight better than a lot of the rubbish that is out there, but it would have been more exciting to see a band mess up by trying something new, than a band doing alright when it is the same old stuff that everyone else is doing.
