Philosofear hails from southern Ontario, Canada. Their sound is traditional Heavy Metal with intense vocals delivered by Al Packham. Al’s intensity is clearly the driving force behind the group. Add in some killer drum work and you get one excellent release.

Judging a band on only a trio of songs is quite difficult but if this EP is any indication then the debut LP will have quite an impact. The lead off single “Misery” leaves you yelling for more with it’s melodic bass and that over the top drumming I just mentioned. The crunchy, distorted guitar at the beginning sets the tone for what is to come. Packham’s rough and raspy voice fits the music perfectly giving it a bit more of an extreme feel while not quite crossing over to the genre.

This 3 track EP comes with a DVD containing 3 videos for 2 of the tracks which is surprising for a band to do so early on. It does however gives a glimpse into how they would be in a live setting.

I recommend checking these guys out if you want some traditional-styled Heavy Metal.
