Here is the new promo/demo CD from ex members of Stormrider with their new Black Metal project called Necrophor. It’s a short 15 minute demo CD with 3 tracks of your usual traditional Black Metal.
Each track is pretty much similar to the next and I very much doubt it’s going to be anything that blows anyone’s heads off in terms of originality or stand out songs. It’s a pretty bog standard demo CD like you hear every other week when doing these kind of reviews. The production is ok, it’s certainly not un-listenable but the songs themselves really are nothing that grab me at all being and being a long time Black Metal fan then that’s nothing short of disappointing. The final song Anguish even has lyrics such as “What have I done!? All my thoughts in turmoil! Darkness engulfs me! What have I done!?” which sounds like the most generic, middle of the road lyrics that any 15 year old with eyeliner and a CrYdL3 0f Fy3lTh T-Shirt could write to be perfectly honest. It’s not something that excites this Black Metal fan in the slightest anyway.
Well, to sum it up, it’s a free demo, so if you want to check it out then there’s no reason not to, but don’t expect a miracle of wonders with this and I apologise that I couldn’t write more about the band or their music but 3 tracks really isn’t much to go on. I personally would have preferred to hear more from them and have them release a 5 to 8 track EP if they want to really put their music across but then again if the music is all to this kind of calibre then I don’t think it would make much difference.
It’s Black Metal, it’s fuzzy, it has shouty vocals that say “eurgh! Darkness! Death! Depression! Bluueeggggrrrrrhhhh!!” with the occasional mournful acoustic guitar section where they would naturally stare at the ground surrounded by a snow filled forest and say “How did I get here…?” like Desmond The Moon Bear. But generally just generic and rehashed Black Metal ideas that are kind of being done to death at the moment.
So, yeah, if you want to check them out then do, otherwise don’t. It’s your choice like with everything.
