What can be said about the late Ronnie James Dio that hasn’t already been said? We all know and agree he was a terrific vocalist. Even if you weren’t a fan of his music you couldn’t deny his talent or impact on the Metal community. With that said we finally get this performance from 1986 issued on Blu-Ray for the first time ever.
Starting off the video isn’t as crisp and clear as you’d like it to be but it is a far cry from an old VHS. It is on par with many videos from that era. The sound is clear with everything placed where it should be in the mix. Sadly the audio is noticeably out of sync with the video in places. It even appears that the vocals were re-done in the studio. While this is no surprise for many it just comes off as unexpected for someone like Dio.
After watching this concert I can easily say that Ronnie was in fine form and put off one hell of a show. This show was over the top production-wise with the stage set up and props. It must have been mind-blowing to have witnessed this first hand? A true showman that knew how to captivate an audience.
Armed with a band of top notch musicians they play all the classics from “Heaven & Hell” to “Long Live Rock and Roll” to “The Last In Line”. There is something included for every fan. Just about every stage of his career is represented in this show. The solos get to be a but much for non-musician fans and they generally don’t lend themselves to video very well.
Overall this is an average release that many will enjoy. It does show what a performer Ronnie was on stage and how big a production his shows were. An excellent documentation of an era gone by.
