After a full length album and an EP, Swedish Doom/ Death Metallers The Gardnerz have released this single which finds the band again mixing those two genres that influence their music. Production on this single is clean and clear, yet allows for the rawer elements to shine alongside the band's more melodic tendencies. The single is basically composed of the song Exiting Reality divided into two sections, parts 1 and 2.
The single kicks off with melodic riffs that may remind some of Candlemass' use of guitar melodies in a Doom Metal context; this leads to a more Death Metal influenced section full of double bass drums and hoarse, growled vocals. The band also implements clean vocal styles and acoustic passages within the song that make for some interesting variations.
"Exiting Reality Pt. 2" starts off with the use of the aforementioned clean vocal style on top of a Death Metal arrangement, until the music picks up some speed and the vocals shift to a more raspy, Black Metal approach. The second part of the song does not bring in as much varied elements as the first part.
For the most part, this single is effective in giving an idea on what fans should expect from the band's next release, which is not all that different from what they did in The System of Nature. The first part of "Exiting Reality" may be the only reason to recommend it.
