Having formed to spread the ‘Word of Chaos’ to the world, new Swedish outfit Necrophor have released their second demo tape: THE EYE OF TERROR. The agenda of spreading chaos is a rather big cliché of alternative music, but when a band choose musical roots you wouldn’t always expect, it might just stand out for you.
On opening track ‘Where Dreams Come to Die’ there is a very catchy fusion of classic rock n roll and punk with the band’s blackened death metal attire. The drums are catchy and not a blast beat in sight, something a lot of Death n Roll fans will be pleased with.
The band then continued to sound more like fellow black n roll veterans Vreid on ‘World of Flesh’. Again the tempo is very fast and catchy as hell. Tremolo picking is more evident here and gives it a more common black metal sound and the double bass pedals provide a healthy wall of sound to keep the listener engaged.
Finally ‘Legion’ closes the album on a much slower pace. It is certainly a heavier arrangement than the first two songs but it showcases how the band have done their homework and listened to a wide range of their nation’s eclectic output into the metal world. It is a very morose and angrier song than the first two, a good ending to an impressive release.
This band I think will be around for a long time and I wouldn’t be surprised if they gain a wide following in northern Europe and further abroad in years to come.
