Cutting to the chase, here’s everything you need to know about Mist:

1) They’re an all-female doom quintet from Slovenia

2) They sound a helluva lot like old school Candlemass mashed up with Blood Ceremony

3) Sounding like a Candelmass/Blood Ceremony mashup is f@#king awesome

4) Their 2-track demo is available as a name your price download via Bandcamp

While it can be tough to make a lasting impression with only a pair of tracks, I’ll tell ya, these two tracks have been on constant replay since coming across their demo. “Phobia” is a more traditional, melodic doom tune that sounds like it could’ve been written by Leif Edling, with a crunchy mid-tempo rhythm and accompanied harmony. “The Living Dead” is a more upbeat occult rocker a la Blood Ceremony/Jex Thoth/old Coven, and it’s just writhing in attitude. Collectively, the two tracks carry a ton of character and promise, and I’m anxious to hear more from Mist.

And you will be too after you head over to their Bandcamp page and shell out a couple of bones for this demo. Don’t believe me? Feedback around Mist has been overwhelmingly positive across the interwebs, and if it’s on the interwebs, it’s gotta be true. All nonsense aside, Mist’s 2013 demo is smart, heavy, and immediately catchy. Get familiar with these ladies and expect big things to come.
