Released: 2012, Limb
Long-time readers will know I’m a sucker for this type of band and sound. An Italian, Epic, Symphonic, Neo-classical, Power Metal band on Limb Records? It’s an instant buy! I know that I’m getting and to my ears that translates into the highest quality and most enjoyable of Metals.
Fogalord is a new band, sort of, a quartet from Modena in North-Central Italy. As far as I can tell the band has evolved from the band Synthphonia Suprema as three of the four members held membership in that band as well. The band has released their debut album A LEGEND TO BELIEVE IN, in late 2012. It’s a nice package, a multi-page booklet with a cool Felipe Franco cover art and lyrics and pictures of our young heroes wielding mighty swords whilst clad in chain-mail.
The twelve song album runs just under an hour. Naturally it starts with a sweeping orchestral introduction with explosive sound-effects before ripping into a uber-fast double-kick driven, neo-classically inspired piece. The album finishes with the obligatory epic the track ‘Of War And Resurrection’ running almost 16 minutes. It is a concept album with helpful liner notes to accompany the story. There are several guest musicians known as the ‘Grey Army’ as well scattered across the album doing guests solos.
The vocals of Danny All are clear and powerful and sometimes he is accompanied by a soprano female vocal adding a nice touch. The songs are very inspirational and uplifting certainly falling into the ‘soundtrack’ category and ‘happy Metal’ realm. The marching anthems, the sing-along parts, the flute, the horns and strings and the slight celtic touches on songs like, ‘The Scream Of The Thunder’ make for very interesting compliments to the traditional speedy neo-classical Power Metal framework.
I’m really excited by Fogalord. The talent, speed and skill demonstrated on these songs is more than enough reason for this band to find a spot in my Top 20 for the year. They are a band to believe in.
