Facing various line-up changes and tightening a sound that begun back in 2008, Blood Legion have set their mark firmly on the Death Metal scene, with various tours in the pipeline and a full-length debut album on the horizon for 2013 they certainly have shown dedication to what they do. With this in mind, their 3 track Promo CD offers a brief insight into the fruits of their labour.
Opening with, ‘God of Lies’ a husky deep growling and thrash style riffs pummel with muddy bass and steady drumming, that erupts into double kick explosiveness. An expected melodic break down leaks into the mix before bursting back into savage guitars and scornful vocals.
Next up, ‘Against the Sun’ pervades with catchy guitar hooks and head banging groove, whilst the growling remains as infernal as ever throughout. The guitar lead section works well with a ascending drum roll before speeding up into an all out attack of metallic mayhem.
Closing off with, ’Blood Legion’ which comes loaded with adrenaline fuelled drums and a muddy bass run, tightly woven into the vocals and guitar drone before pulling you into a weighty stomp-like procession of sludgy riffs.
This was an enjoyable listen to a band whose ability to write some solid material cannot be denied. The music is well thought out and instantly accessible to ears of any Death Metal loyalist. However, the only thing that lets this record down is the production which does feel a bit rough around the edges and at times a strain to contend with. Other than that good work guys, hoping to hear more of this promising sound in your follow-up.
