Rough, ready and fresh faced, TORCHIA are a new death metal band tinged with plenty of old school thrash metal influences. Their passion is obvious, and their ambitions are certainly clear, but let's see if there's any room for more bands of this ilk in the metal scene.
"Nameless Story" is an appropriate opener, fast and buzzing, with a catchy melo-death riff straight of the bat. Guitarists Ville and Henri show some impressive work, and seem to be influence by Alexi Laiho, as does vocalist "Kvist" with his high pitched war cries.
The other two tracks, "Your Blood in my Veins" and "Too Far, Too Late" feel slightly underpowered by the thin production, but for a band in it's early stages, this is perfectly acceptable, although a little muddiness would have done nothing but add a little density and atmosphere.
This Finish five piece from Tampere may still be in fertile demo days, but there's no doubting they're potential, so keep a keen eye on this great new band.
