Spektr are an industrial/black metal band from France. After forming in 2000, the release their debut full length album, "Et Fugit Intera Fugit Irreparabile Tempus", in 2004.

They are now back with their 3rd full length album.

I remember hearing from this band before and not being overly keen on their music. Unfortunately, my opinion has not changed. I love when a band tries with new sounds, but when the end up sounding like a musical clash of the titans, I can think of 100 other things I would be rather doing than sitting and listening to them.

"Teratology" makes absolutely fuck all sense to me. It starts off sounding like some metal jazz fusion, goes on to some metal then has some weird psychadelic ending. Not the strongest start to an album. I found that a lot of the tracks have this weird grainy effect, kind of like white noise.

They have obviously used this to try and set a scene but I think it's a bit of a fail, there's no need for it to be there really. "Antimatter" seems to be the only one that I could see myself liking but I'm not overly fussed by it either. The best one would have to be the last track, "Le Vitriol Du Philosophe". A few lyrics in there and it may have actually been half decent.

The title track, "Cypher", will actually make you deaf so don't even bother.

To give the album a good point, on a technical scale, it is very good, the instruments are clear and they have obviously put a lot of effort into it. This however, is not enough for me to actually like let alone go out and buy. I hate it when a full album has no lyrics, it feels very lazy to me. On the whole, a good effort put a poor, and slightly boring album.
