This World Is Dead
February 2013
Released: 2013, Relapse Records Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team Having been over 6 years since their last release, France’s premier grindcore unit Blockheads could be accused of being lazy, but once you’ve listened to new release ‘This World is Dead,’ you’ll see that really they’ve just been getting themselves angry enough to write this album. Filled (as you might expect) with 40 minutes of un-adulterated fury, sliced into 25 unrelenting, ear-pummelling tracks, it’s clear to see that even after 20 years these boys are at the top of their game. While on the whole, the album sticks almost exclusively to the traditional grindcore format of hard and extremely-fucking-fast, there are one or two moments here and there of slightly more mature song writing, where the occasional unexpected groove is unleashed amidst otherwise never-ending blast beats. Personally, I can’t say there were many particular points that really stood out on this album; the guitars are frenzied, drums unremitting, vocals filled with fury and altogether it is a tight, well recorded piece of music. So perhaps everything you could want from a high-standard grindcore album, and that’s all I will say... Review by Kevin Griffiths ![]()
