Ashes You Leave
The Cure For Happiness
December 2012
Released: 2012, Rock’N’Growl
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Ashes you leave are a 7 piece doom/Goth metal band hailing from Rijeka, Croatia. they took their name from the 8th song from Cathedrals album The Ethereal Mirror. They formed in 1995, originally being a death/doom metal band; they changed their sound on their 2002 album “Fire” to a more Goth/metal sound. “The Cure For Happiness” is the bands 6th full length studio album.

I have a very big soft spot for doom/Goth metal; it’s my go to genre every time. After listening to this album I can only think about how much I still love it! The sound is perfectly clear, the songs are put together extremely well and the flow is consistent throughout, having that perfect blend of classical music mixed with metal and beautiful vocals mixed with gluteal ones.

“For the heart, soul and mind” is a complete throwback to their gloom roots, heavy bass and very dark whilst “The ever changing” is at the other end of the spectrum with a slight southern sound. I do have to point this one out as it did amuse me! “The cure” is the intro to the last song but it seriously sounds like something out of a Disney film. “Meant to stray” is also interesting as it sounds a tad like Metallica’s nothing else matters, full of beautiful guitar work. I honestly found it hard to pick a favourite as the whole album was so good! It is easy to see why they have become one of the biggest bands in Croatia, if not the biggest. This album is certainly worth the buy.
