God Seed
I Begin
December 2012
Released: 2012, Indie Recordings Rating: 4.0/5 Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team God Seed are originally a 2 piece band (now with 4 members added), hailing from Bergen, Norway. The band was founded in 2009 by former Gorgoroth members, Gaahl and King Ov Hell, after losing their court case in the Gorgoroth name dispute. They took their name from a Gorgoroth song and were ready to release an album until Gaahl retired that same year. 3 years on they have reunited and are back with their first full length album, I Begin. To start off with, I was a massive fan of Gorgoroth so after all the name dispute crap, I was excited to hear that Gaahl and King Ov Hell were releasing an album together. After listening to this, I was not disappointed! The quality of the album is great for a start, the sound is clear (considering the amount of noise and the vocals) and the production is on top form. The album has a perfect black metal flow, most of the songs sounding somewhat similar but at the same time standing out on their own. “Lit” has to be my favourite off the whole album, with its perfect balance of guitars and drums. “Hinstu Dagar” has an ever so slightly slower feel to it with a slight similarity to Satyricons earlier stuff, the same goes for “For the Running of Blood” only this time it seems to be reminiscent of Dimmu Borgir. The one that really stands out and I’m sure will be a necessity for all metal fans is “Aldrande Tre”. With its build-up of drums with guitars thrown in then BOOM! Right in your face it really goes for it! The last track on the album, “Bloodline”, is more of an outro and it sounds very creepy, there are samples of a woman doing a panting like noise. It sounds like it should be on the soundtrack of a 90’s vampire film! Overall, I was pretty impressed with this album. They have come back to show that regardless of what has gone on, they can still create great music and that they will be around for some time to come. Review by Lianne Alice ![]()
