Carnivore Sublime
April 2014
Released: 2014, Season Of Mist
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Helias Papadopoulos

As proven on their previous recordings (see: ASYLUM CAVE-2011), French Benighted enraged hardcore is jacked-up on death and grindcore elements and delivered at decimating, tuned-down levels. The overhauled band now unloads an even tighter display of relentless d-beat and blast-infused guttural torment together with a great dose of pure punk.

The eminent quintet makes one step further with CARNIVORE SUBLIME delivering an extra good grindcore album as not many bands do. They launch again the drain and their death grind piece seems to find the prop this year.

Blasts, breakdowns, rap-fused pig-squeal that will never cease to have fun, grafted with a thick coating groove. All these Benighted elements consist in CARNIVORE SUBLIME. The album title is the perfect characterization of what Benighted wanted to offer. The album is like a rabid carnivore animal ready to kill you. Out of sight guitar riffs and special breakdown in ‘Noise’ that many thrash and death metal bands would envy.

Let’s take a closer look to this album and special features. Worth mentioning the great appearances of Niklas Kvarforth (Shining - Swe) in "Spit" which is one of the best songs on the album alongside with “Noise” and Michael Kern (Carnal Decay) in the "June And The Lacinic Solstice" is welcome regardless of whether they might not give something terrible in this mess of French music. Great songs like "Collection Of Dead Portraits" and "Les Morsures Du Cerbere" for example, is not easy to be written and played by another band.

Julien Truchan’s vocals sounds like he just scraped his throat with hot lava. The guitars are at a level where the amplifiers do no longer smoke but melt. The aggression and overheating is cooled down with beer, loads of beers. All in all, CARNIVORE SUBLIME can be a great guide for the deathgrind and grindcore music field and can be easily among the top 5 grind albums of the year.
