Dust & Grooves: Adventures In Record Collecting (Book Review)
Released: 2014, Dust & Grooves Publications
Reviewer: Celtic Bob
This book is coming out on Record Store Day for all of us who love vinyl records. This mammoth book is filled from cover to cover with loads of fantastic photos of record collections and the people that own them. Eilon travelled the world over to bring this wonderful book to you. It started out as a blog then it slowly turned into this wonderful book.
I would divide the book into two sections. The first section of the book is laden with fantastic photos of record collections and their owners. Seeing how other vinyl aficionados display their albums is interesting for lack of a better term. Seeing their shelves, walls..etc is plain interesting. It’s fun to pick out titiles in their collections that you have or that are on your personal “Wish List”. You will see similarities in nearly all of the pictures if you are a serious collector.
The second part is more word oriented as it is interviews with the collectors. Diving into their minds is fascinating. Learning how they began with their record collections. What was their first album. What is their “Holy Grail”. Again, you will have many similarities to the featured collectors.
This is an informative and interesting book that all record collector’s need to pick up. It is well written and the photo’s are wonderful. I hope that Paz does a second volume that shows a little broader musical taste as there was no real Rock or Metal collections featured.
