Keel, Ron
Even Keel: Life On The Streets Of Rock & Roll (Book Review)
April 2014
Released: 2014, Wild West Media Prod.
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Ron Keel has been around the music scene for decades and EVEN KEEL documents some of the journeys, the lows and many highs. Ron’s life has been anything but easy but thankfully he is still here and able to share some of his stories with us. This book is an eye-opener with a vast amount of info that the average fan wouldn’t have known.

Being a fan of Keel since I first heard THE RIGHT TO ROCK back in the day. I must have worn that old cassette out by playing it over and over again. It was after the follow-up; THE FINAL FRONTIER that I began to lose track of them. I vaguely remember the self titled that followed it but then they were gone. During this period Ron trudged on and still made music although the polar opposite from his Hard Rock and Metal days, this time he was Ronnie Lee Keel a Country musician. His tales of this time about the music and his personal life are extremely interesting, especially the hardships and what he had to do just to make ends meet. His stories are interesting and very well told. The book reads as though he was there in the same room telling you the events himself, it’s that kind of read.

He does mention in the book that he has enough stories for another couple of books. Hopefully he will begin work on another one with more emphasis on the Keel reunion as that was skimmed over a little too lightly for this Keel fan. Maybe by then he will have a chapter on his new METAL COWBOY album and it’s success. EVEN KEEL is an excellent book that is easy to read. I highly recommend picking up a copy.
