Live In Sofia (DVD)
April 2013
Released: 2012, AFM
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Fellow Staffer; Waspman reviewed the CD portion of this album back in January so I will do the DVD portion for you all this month.

Being an Accept and U.D.O. fan this LIVE IN SOFIA was a welcomed package to arrive. I popped the DVD into the player, poured up a cold one and sat back with the volume turned up.

Very well filmed video of their Sofia, Bulgaria show back in 2011. Udo, Stefan and the band are extremely tight and on the top of their game. As Waspman stated in his review the show gets off to an extremely strong start then tapers off slightly. I do have to agree to a point that the guitar and drum solo’s are a bit much. They are a bit lengthly and could be shortened although it was pretty cool to see Igor walking through the venue while playing guitar. I thoroughly loved the versions of the old Accept tracks, “Balls To The Wall” included. You are just waiting to see Udo coming flying across the stage riding on a giant wrecking ball. Ahh, the flashbacks.

Watching this concert on stupid high volume is the next best thing for those of us that have never had the privilege to see U.D.O. live. The picture is sharp and the sound is clear and well mixed. I wonder how much of an improvement the Blu-Ray is and a surround mix? Udo is a true frontman and interacts with the audience extremely well and keeps them on their feet throughout the entire 2 hour plus show. Then again who sits during a Metal show?

This video whets your appetite for the new STEELHAMMER album and tour.
