Michael Schenker
Temple Of Rock-Live In Europe
April 2013
Released: 2012, Inakustik
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: JP

We really haven’t covered much Michael Schenker on this site over the years. The prolific guitarist is now well into the fifth distinct phase of his career, namely his solo career. This is in fact his 10th or 11th solo album, believe it or not. Following up on the well-received TEMPLE OF ROCK from 2011. This is actually his first live solo album and it is a nice double live platter with some bonus cuts.

The show was recorded on May 13th, 2012 in the Netherlands. The booklet is nice, 10 pages with an essay about Michael, lots of colour photos and an introductory thank you note from Michael himself. The line-up on this album actually had three ex-members of Scorpions (Bucholz, Rarebell, Schenker) on the tour and it is a fact that singer Doogie White, refers to in his in-between song banter.

The set-list is a decent cross section of Schenkers entire career, UFO, Scorpions, MSG and some solo stuff but no McAuley Schenker Tunes. I would have liked to hear a bit more of his solo material as only a coupld of songs from his latest solo album made the cut. I know all this stuff having grown up with it, so it is a warm, safe familiar album. The production is great, the performances by these veteran rockers are dead-on. Schenkers plays his heart out, it seems he is in a good space right now, enjoying playing. The ever versatile Doogie delivers a great performance with his seemingly limitless talent.

There are some bonus cuts from a London show with a bunch of guests joining the band on-stage on the High Voltage Festival, but I think it might be more interesting to see the DVD or Blu-Ray or these guest performances. I’m glad Pete way came out, it might mean he could be on the way to recovery. This is a good set, good value and recommended for old fan and curiosity seekers alike.
