KXM is named for the 3 musicians’ bands (Korn, King’s X and Lynch Mob). Being a Metal/Hard Rock guy I am quite familiar with George Lynch’s catalog and some King’s X tunes but nothing of Korn. With this much talent you have high expectations and KXM delivers.

It was the Dokken and Lynch Mob fan in me that sparked my interest in this new band along with some curiosity on dUg’s vocals and playing. I never could quite wrap my head around King’s X. They always seemed too technical and more of a musician’s band. Either way I alway had an appreciation for the talent. When I saw the clips on the label’s site my expectations were set high. It sounded different, fresh, energetic. It was hard to describe the sound and still is. George’s distinct guitar playing is there and is closer to his Mob stuff compared to early Dokken. Pinnick plays a mean and melodic bass and his vocals are powerful and really hit you. I never knew how strong a vocalist he was until now. Tracks like “Gun Fight” show the heavier side of the band with it’s all out Metal attack while a song like “Never Stop” shows a different, mellower side of the band with it’s melodies and softer vocals. A very unexpected song especially following “Gun Fight”. It picks up again for “Never Stop” and doesn’t really slow down anymore.

The diversity and ability to play different styles and grab from their individual backgrounds and influences make this a stand out debut album. Each member is highly regarded within their genre and when they came together last year to jam something magical happened as cliche as it sounds. Fantastic debut release.
