This is a live album recorded during the Glamfest at Fryshuset in Stockholm Sweden during the 11th of February this year. I would have rather seen a studio follow up to the brilliant album WE ARE ZAN CLAN WHO THE F***K ARE YOU that came out last year, but this live CD is a good distraction while waiting for the next Zan Clan opus.
It’s a single-CD live album and the last show with Pontus Egberg (bass) and Pontus Norgren (guitar), who are currently in a band called The Poodles. Zan Clan’s glam/sleaze rock sounds dirtier live, but lead singer Zinny Zan sounds just as good live as in the studio. Zan seems to be a little confused because he goes between speaking English and Swedish in between the songs. Almost all of the songs are taken from the above-mentioned album except for the Shotgun Messiah song “Don’t Care” that is played at the end of the show.
Band member Chris Laney produced and mixed the album and it reflects exactly what happend that night; nothing has been erased or added. You can tell because of the young girls who constantly scream at their top of the lungs right beside the recording mic and because Zinny Zan forgets a few lines here and there. As a bonus, the booklet is full of liner notes written by Zinny Zan and Chris Laney. Also as a bonus the band includes three studio songs which are “Join the Revolution” and “Bakk 2 Raise Sum Hell”, both demos from 2006. On the first one Ryan Roxie plays lead guitar, and on the other tracks Markus Jidell plays lead guitar. The last song is “Starfukker” which is a leftover from the last studio album.
There’s nothing much more to say about this brilliant live CD. It’s a given purchase for any fan of glam/sleaze and it’s a reminder that Sweden has one of the greatest glam/sleaze acts around.
