If You Like Led Zeppelin (Book Review)
Released: 2012, Backbeat Books
Reviewer: Celtic Bob
Another book in the IF YOU LIKE series. This edition features Led Zeppelin who are one of the first heavy rock bands. They were heavily influenced by the Blues but the sound they created was heavy and powerful in every aspect. This book shows their influences and similar media that you may enjoy as well.
Being a Zep fan I was quite interested in this book and I did find it interesting for the most part. Many of the recommendations are spot on and you should enjoy them. Some are slightly off base but interesting to search out if nothing more than out of curiosity. There are many Blues albums listed and some are justly so such as the Robert Johnson’s and Willie Dixon who Zep borrowed from. Each chapter lends itself to a slightly different topic. One being the inception of the band, the genre, friends & imitators, and the recent years. All of these different chapters have their own place and specific hi-lights. Personally the “British Blues Explosion” chapter was quite interesting as it talked about Rory Gallagher who I am a big fan of. It is these things that you can relate to and see similarities you may never have took notice of before.
An interesting read that will make you seek out more music for your collection. It is a fun and easy read so you should get through it’s less than 200 pages fairly quickly.
