The second Queensrÿche album released this year but this one is the band vs. the singer. It is very confusing for fans as both are using the Queensrÿche name. This self titled album is 3/4’s of the classic band along with the addition of Parker Lundgren on guitar and Todd LaTorre replacing Geoff Tate on vocals.

I will begin by stating that this IS Queensrÿche. While Geoff may be the voice of Queensrÿche he is NOT the band on his own. This can be said for the band as well, as they need the voice to go along with the music. Upon your first listen you will change your opinion and say that this IS Queensrÿche of old. It could easily be the follow-up to EMPIRE. It is their best effort since that iconic album. Todd fits into the band flawlessly. His vocals are like old Geoff Tate so Tate is not missed in the least. As you would come to expect the musical abilities of Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield are unparalleled. The pull no punches here and we are treated to some fantastic songs. Songs like “redemption” and “Vindication” just scream late 80’s Queensrÿche. Everything about them is near perfection. The original trio hasn’t sounded this good in years.

For this self titled album it is as though they have been given a new life. Did Todd add a new breath into the band? Were they held back by Tate? Whatever happened we jan rejoice in the fact that we have an amazing and Classic ‘rÿche album to enjoy. Maybe we will get to hear DeGarmo on a future release?
