Mojo Rib

Released: 2003, Nuthing Sacred Records
Rating: 4.5/5

Awww man!!!!! Where do I begin with this one? When this arrived I didn’t know what to expect. Once I put it on I got about 30 seconds into the first song and had to go over to the stereo and crank it up several notches.

Coming out of LA this 5 piece band have got to be the hottest band in town right now. They got the sound, rawness and amazing vocals to become the next biggest thing. Just think of some great bands like early AC/DC, Roth era Van Halen (which is the ONLY VHalen) and add some great 80’s metal-styled vocals into the mix and you are pretty close to what Mojo Rib are all about.

This is one kick ass cd from start to finish. From the time you put it on and hear the beginning of “Half-Pipe Raider” to the last chords of “Snakebite” you will have this cranked. It is good, fun Rawk n’ Roll. Singer Jay’s vocals can be compared to the likes of Bon Scott and Johnny Crash singer Vicki James Wright. This is quite a compliment in itself as it not meant to say he’s ripping them off BUT to say that it is fitting for this music. It is good to hear guitar solos put back into songs again which seem to have disappeared with much of today’s music. You even get a slight Ted Nugent influence on a few tracks. This is the type of music that shows that music is meant to be fun and not so serious. The song “Fat Lady with A Gun” is a quick turn out to left field as it is totally different from the rest of the album. It sort of put’s me in mind of The Joe Ely song “ The Road Goes On Forever” where it tells a story and got the music in the back to set the tone of the story.

I could go on and on about this release. Just do yourself a favour and go buy this release. It’ll definitely be one of the most played albums in your collection. Stick it in your car for when you’re cruising down the highway with the sun beating down or at your next party. Mojo Rib has just released a great cd of 100% RAWK ‘N ROLL.
