Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
July 2011
Released: 2011, EMI
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Re-Issue’s seem to be the “In” thing at the moment as many releases are getting the Remastered treatment and sometimes super deluxe packaging. Megadeth is no different as their timeless classic: PEACE SELLS...BUT WHO’S BUYING? gets the deluxe treatment complete with 3 LP’s. Fucking Sweet!

PEACE SELLS holds a special meaning for me as this was the album that got me into the band and for the most part into heavier metal. From the moment I saw the video for the title track on Much Music’s Power Hour I was hooked. There was no changing the channel anymore. For me personally this will always be Megadeth’s greatest album.

My advance copy of this re-issue is the double disc version with the original album on disc one and a concert from 1987 on disc two. I cannot comment on the LP’s or the other disc’s found in the 5 Disc/3 LP set unfortunately.

This is the ultimate Megadeth album by far. Nothing comes close to it’s greatness. It was their second album and first for EMI and they outdid themselves as every song is killer. Even their cover of the Willie Dixon song “I Ain’t Superstitious” fits in well. What can you really say about this timeless classic?

Disc 2 is a live show from 1987 that was previously unreleased. The sound quality here is not the greatest. It sounds slightly better than a bootleg soundboard recording. From an interest and historical point hearing it is a treat but not something that will get repeat listens. It is rough around the edges and a real live recording which is credible as some bands choose to go back into the studio to fix and re-record their live recordings which IMO make them studio recordings and not live recordings.

I cannot stress enough how important that the original version of this album is. If you don’t own it there is no better time than now to add it to your collection. Forget the remixed version from a few years back. The original is how this album is meant to be heard. Do yourself a huge favor and go purchase this release on July 12.
