Iron Savior
June 2016
Released: 2016, AFM Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Waspman

As a long-standing member of the power metal community, Iron Savior is name that shouldn’t be unfamiliar to anyone. The band’s well-known for it’s dependable sci-fi based power metal, lead by the gruff charismatic vocals of band leader Piet Sielck. The band’s released 8 albums (9 if you include the re-recording of MEGATROPOLIS), all following the same path started way back on the self-titled debut from 1997.

TITANCRAFT sees the band staying the course, but perhaps playing with a bit more fire and vigour than on some recent albums. Cuts like the title track and album-highlight “Way of the Blade” are powerful, aggressive, and catchy anthems that rival the very best of the band’s previous output. Sielck’s distinctive vocals are still in great shape and continue to lend the band a unique flavour. By this point in the game, you know what you’re going to get from an Iron Savior album, and TITANCRAFT delivers it all. Highlights include the aforementioned tracks, but also the vampiric tale “The Sun Won’t Rise in Hell” and the soaring “Beyond the Horizon”.

I’m not sure if it’s a highlight, but the album also includes the most saccharine ballad the band has ever done with “I Surrender”. Even after numerous listens, I can’t decide if I like this one or not! Actually...I do.

Fear not though – that’s only 1 ballad out of 10 rock solid power metal cuts; the rest are exactly what fans would want to hear out of Iron Savior. TITANCRAFT is a must-have; long live the Savior!
