From Italy comes Ade, a brutal and relentless pounding Death Metal force of 10,000 Legions (pun intended) fusing elements of Ancient Greek and Roman music and instrumentation with extreme technical and melodic Death Metal. They released their debut album in 2009 entitled ‘Prooemivm Sangvine’ and now return once more with the incredible new follow up ‘Spartacus’.

From the moment this album started up for me I knew it would be an absolute 5 out of 5 review. From the word go this is an album with incredible fast technical Death Metal with guitar riffing that cuts through the speakers at break neck speed and has all sorts of very cool pans and production effects on them that makes the sound even more interesting. The drums on the album are handled by George Kollias who does an absolutely jaw droppingly good job. The speed of his playing is absolutely immense and the overall sound and production on the album is nothing short of brilliance. The guitars have an amazing mixture of low end crunch with nice bright overriding tones, the drums and bass kick through the speakers with a nice and heavy amount of low end and the vocals sound like a wall of aggression that Death Metal fans will definitely enjoy.

The best part of it though is the inclusion of a lot of Eastern sounds into the mix. Ade is a band that as I said in the intro takes a lot of elements of Ancient Roman and Greek music and incorporates that into their music, not just in their chords and guitar riffs but also through the use of backing vocal choirs that have a powerful epic sound and a lot of traditional instruments and percussion are used as well to create a sound not dissimilar to something you’d hear from Behemoth or Rotting Christ’s more recent work.

I for one absolutely love all Eastern influences in music so for me this was something really very cool to hear and it really does come together to create an incredibly epic and historical sound that would inspire anyone to go running screaming into battle with a blood soaked face!

The song writing abilities of the band are extremely impressive as well. All of the riffs and solos are written with beautiful melodic technicality that harks back to that Eastern Scaled Roman and Greek sound and the guitar playing is so technical in places it reminded me slightly of Necrophagist but slightly less mental fret widdling than their style.

Some stand out tracks from the album would definitely have to be, Crixius Flags of Dishonour which has one of the most awesome sounding outros I’ve heard in a long while.

Slow heavy guitars mixed with brutally forced out lead vocals and a backing chorus of a female choir singing the listener off to the final battle. Absolutely amazing stuff! Another great track is Duelling The Shadow Of Spartacus, this song has some much awesome Eastern sounds and backing vocals mixed together with slow crushing Death Metal guitars that it’s like listening to the best soundtrack to something like God Of War, 300 or Gladiator that you’ll ever hear.

Divinus Victor is another fantastic fast paced Death Metal masterpiece which I’m sure when played live will absolutely tear the roof off of the venue, if I could recommend checking out one song from the new album as an example then I would recommend this one.

To be perfectly honest though every song on this album is its own brilliant stand out track, it wouldn’t be worth the 5 out of 5 rating otherwise and you have to really hear the album to understand. There’s not a single song on this album for me personally that didn’t get the adrenaline going and make me want to blast along with the drums or air guitar along whilst windmill head banging. It’s quite simply one of the most beautifully put together Death Metal albums I’ve heard recently without doubt.

I can’t say enough praise for this album if I’m entirely honest, it’s a band that I’ve not heard of before but I can’t give this album anything less than a 5 out of 5 simply for the incredible amount of originality and innovation that these guys have shown to hone their sound into something wholly unique and beautifully mesmerising for the listener.

If you consider yourself a Death Metal fan and especially a fan of bands such as Behemoth and Rotting Christ then I cannot urge you enough to check out this album.

This will be a definite contender in the top albums of 2013 I am sure of it and I hope to see Ade performing in the UK as soon as possible.

This is a band that could very well be achieving big things in the Metal world very soon!
