Zeno is the younger brother of Uli Jon Roth. He released his solo album back in 1985, and it was re-released in 2004 by MTM Records.
Apparently it has taken Zeno 8 years to make this album. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays all of the instruments on this album. He also sings lead vocals on “Do You Feel The Time” and to has the ex-Jaded Heart singer Michael Bormann sing the remaining songs. RUNWAY TO THE GODS is a heavy album filled with guitar-based hard rock with influences from 70’s retro hard rock. The main focus is set on Zeno’s amazing guitar playing. Another great thing worth mentioning is Bormann’s brilliant lead vocals that have both feeling and energy and take the songs to a much higher level.
Among the 11 tracks there are 2 strictly-instrumental ones called “Sogno Di Angelo” by Mascagni and “Sunset Birds Flying Home”. The material is really strong, but on the other hand it’s should be expected since it took 8 years to get this album together. Zeno should have cut down the instrumental songs to only one because two is too many. The up-tempo ballad “Runway to the Gods” and the ballad “Do You Feel the Time” could have been excluded; they don’t add anything to the album at all. That’s about all the negative criticism I have for this album. RUNWAY TO THE GODS is otherwise a really impressive and solid release by Zeno, and for all of you who have yet to discover him - it’s about time you do.
Killer tracks are “Fanfares Of Love”, “Climb The Sky”, “Shades Of Blue”, “Refugees (Longing For Paradise)”, “I Feel – I Live”, and “Purify (Pilgrims Of Rememberance)”.
