Watchdog Discipline is an apt name for a ferocious new band from Australia. Simply put, the band takes the best of today’s Thrash Metal and melds them with a Slayer/Exodus like approach to create a truly intense experience.
The EP gets off to an amazing start with “Providence” a crushing number that gets the ball rolling. The first thing you’ll notice about the band is the drive and confidence of the unit – each riff is devastating and the delivery is razor sharp. This all comes home on my favourite cut “12 Gauge Confessions” a song so powerful and captivating that it would make any Thrash fan weak at the knees. “Choose Your Weapon” and “Intent Cannot Be Tried” round off the EP and they continue the very high standards set earlier.
What makes Watchdog Discipline such an interesting prospect is the fact the music sounds so fresh. The feel, sound and arrangements of the songs are not retro but very traditional and this is because the musicians inject an atmosphere or an edge if you will, that is unique thus making KILLBRED such an awesome proposition for Heavy Metal fans. There’s a lot of honesty here and there’s no doubt that the band mean what they say and believe in what they play.
With four cuts, KILLBRED is way too short and ends all too soon but it’s more than enough to leave you wanting more. Thrash Metal is all the rage at moment and with a band like Watchdog Discipline at the helm the genre is in good hands.
