Too Hot Too Handle
May 2011
Released: 2010, Eonian Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: JP

There is a new, young upstart label on the block and they are called Enoian Records. This US based label is specializing in melodic late 80’s, early 90’s American Melodic Metal and Hard Rock. They have put out a batch of great albums and over the next three months (March-May, 2011) we are going to look at nine of their most recent releases. This month (May, 2011) we will take a look at the bands Sweet Sybil, Uzi and Wanted. Last month I reviewed Legacy, Sgt. Roxx, and Shake City. Please feel free to check out the other reviews in this series.

Wanted were a great looking, great sounding quintet from Indianapolis that were on the verge on the big leagues. Courted by Geffen and jetted around for showcase gigs and demo recording sessions, these guys were slated for the big time. Again, like many of the great acts on Eonian Records, that nebulous X-Factor stalled the band and they were relegated to the pages of history. That’s too bad because Wanted kick ass.

Eonian has pulled together the bands record history into one nice package called TOO HOT TO HANDLE. This includes a five-track demo, a couple of pro-demo tracks from LA recorded for Geffen and six cut (plus intro) live showcase gig. It’s a nice package, liner notes, a brief essay, lots of photos and so forth.

Wanted come across a little heavier than some of the comparable bands on Eonian, especially in the live set. Opening cut ‘Anchors Aweigh’ is just killer. I would have loved to have seen that live back in the day. The title track ‘Too Hot to Handle’, with it’s brief acoustic intro steers pretty close to Sweet FA with a bit of the slightly-southern, bluesy-tinged sound but the vocals of Bobby Sisk take the song to the next level. Lead-off cut Whiskey and Women’ is a pure rocker through and through.

Of all the nine albums in this series, this is pretty close to the top of the heap. A nice slice of rock history. Recommended!
