Witchcurse
Heavy Metal Poison
December 2010
Released: 2010, Infernö Records Rating: 3.5/5 Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen NWOBHM. A phenomenon that started in the late 70´s by such groups as Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Diamond Head, Saxon, Budgie, Raven, Angel Witch, Witchfinder General and so many other acts – and has been continuing since those days up to this very day by a great number of newer bands. One of those cherished legendary act is Witchcurse; a 4-piece Metal act coming from Thessaloniki, Greece that has their first studio album recorded and released through an independent French label, Infernö Records. As ever, keeping it simple and catchy is the name of the game on Witchcurse´s first 11-track studio album, titled HEAVY METAL POISON. As the album title already suggests strongly, the whole band is poisoned by Heavy Metal´s purest and deepest ideologies and attitude what it should be all about in the very first place. It should be fun, coming from your soul and heart and a vast use of Heavy Metal´s most colorful clichés is more than allowed. That´s what Witchcurse breathes, eats and farts at their maximum capacity. They are truly on fire on their very easily adopted debut album – and that´s so great thing about them. They sing about sex, alcohol and all other joys of (Heavy Metal) life, supporting their strongly early Maiden-tinged Heavy Metal attacks in a cliché-filled but beautiful way, feeding each of our wild imagination about some crazy and restless head banging parties – supported heavily by alcohol, denim vests, worn-out jeans, bullet belts and most importantly, a good dose of pure Heavy Metal that simply keep your body fluids moving, heart pumping and sort of inactivates your brain for that extended moment ´til you have given it all in the name of old-fashioned, true Heavy Metal. Now get high by an overdose of these four Greeks´ own mixture of Heavy Metal poison, and don´t look for tomorrow. This is a celebration that is not meant to be missed but to be participated. ![]()
