Woah. I feel...violated. This is one of the most angry and hateful albums I think I’ve ever heard. Yes, Watchmaker are the sound of pure destruction and annihilation. Their bio says that they are “the embodiment of pure anger”, and it sure as hell ain’t lyin’! Led by “Vocal Terror” Brian Livoti, the band leaves a trail of broken bones and crushed skulls in their wake.

“Broken by Refraction”, the opening salvo to the disc features churning guitars, barely audible, but seemingly atonal bass, and frenetic drums, led forth by indiscernible vocal spewage from Brian. Yeah, go ahead, try and figure out what the hell he’s screamin’ about. Good luck. That’s about as comprehensible as the album gets folks.

Damn if it isn’t a rush though! The whole album swirls past like a tornado and sweeps you up in it, but for some strange reason, you’re willing. Maybe it’s because the band know that straight blasting for 30 minutes will get a little dull, so they add different styles to the mix. “Salt Fertile Earth” features guitars that wouldn’t sound out of place on a pure black metal album, while “Watchmaker” is lead by Nick’s bumble-bee bass lines. It’s also one of the few songs where Brian’s vocals can be understood, if only for a couple of seconds.

Basically if you’re the kind of person who loves to listen to the angriest must out there, Watchmaker are for you. Hell, even if you’re not into pure noise music, they still might interest ya. Crack ‘em open let your mind be blown.
