What could be better than enjoying a hot summer day, driving around in a your convertible cranking the melodic metal? Perris Records has released a new batch of discs just in time for your super summer barbeque or picnic. After all who wants to listen to Black Metal bands screaming about the eternal winter frost when it’s hot and sunny out and you are having a few beers with friends? New releases by Razamanaz, a double shot of Pretty Boy Floyd and Hollywood Hairspray Vol II are all you need to get your party started. The first thing you might notice is a fairly high grade for what is a simple compilation. This grade strictly reflects my enthusiasm for the label, the genre, the bands included and ultimately the songs. The major bonus that gets this comp a bump in rating is the enormous number of unreleased tracks. Many label comps just throw the big hit single type songs on a comp to expose their artists but HH Vol II is a cool collectible for fans as well. The first eight cuts are the heavy hitters of the glam scene, bands like Enuff Z’ Nuff, Pretty Boy Floyd, Ken Tamplin and many others. The back end of the disc has another eight songs from bands that, if there were any justice in the world, would all be household names as well. The nitro track, B.O.M.B. stands out in my mind and I have always felt that Cherry St. have been overlooked all these years. The track Whiskey is as good as any hit form the late 80’s ever was. It is good to hear Fahrenheit on this disc as the band also made the cut for our very own Metal-Rules.com sampler disc as the only glam entry. Kick ass band! Parlour Trixx was another band that caught my ear of the lesser known acts. It is hard to analyze 16 songs track by track each with different, tone, tempo style, and production levels but all in all every band has fully acceptable quality, presentation and catchy songs. The concept of the disc, half known and half unknown is a good idea. Perris just signed Enuff Z’ Nuff and will be re-releasing Blue Island with four bonus tracks.
