Vicious Art
Pick Up This Sick Child
December 2007
Released: 2007, Mighty Music/Target Distribution
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Vicious Art is a Swedish all-star act with members from Entombed, Dark Funeral, Guidance of Sin and Dominion Caligula. The driving motivation of the project is to make extreme metal and nothing else. Their debut album FIRE FALLS AND THE WAITING WATERS was released in 2004 and two years later came the three-track EP WEED THE WILD. Now the band is back to attack us with a brilliant extreme metal disc jam-packed with sheer brutality and aggression.

The very aggressive and extreme metal that floods out of my speakers are really technical and intense and a total bliss for every fan of death metal music. Lead vocals vary with both growling and ordinary parts and despite the tempo have slowed down a bit the guys have stayed true to the heaviness in the music.

And just like the rest of the album, the production is flawless and it contains every element an album of this caliber ought to have. PICK UP THIS SICK CHILD mangles through 11 tracks, all of which are well-written and raw. And even though the material is really heavy they didn’t forget about the melodies in all the madness.

It’s impossible to pick out any favorite tracks within this death metal frenzy; instead I choose the entire album as my favorite. I have heard the album many times now and it’s as close to perfection you can come.

I really hope that the band’s new label promotes them more than their last label because this album needs exposure. It could be one of the best death metal albums of the year. If you’re into death metal at all, you have to check out this brutal death metal attack by this monster act.
