Thrashing Like a Maniac

Released: 2008, Earache/Sound Pollution Rating: 3.5/5 Reviewer: Anders Sandvall Here comes a compilation album that shows off the hottest new acts within the thrash scene today. Many of the bands make their debut appearance on this disc like Bonded by Blood and Gama Bomb. This compilation doesn’t only include Earache bands; many of the bands come from other labels as well. THRASHING LIKE A MANIAC brings together the scene and unties it in one glorious compilation. The only problem is that I can’t hear anything that’s remotely new and fresh when it comes to the “new thrash sound” the compilation claims these bands brings to the scene. The main difference between the good old thrash scene and the new one is the pace - the speed is faster, but that’s also about it. It’s pretty hard to predict whether or not a band has it or not when they’re only allowed to do one song on a compilation. Many of the bands sounds alike and some rise above the others, but most of the time feels it to homogenous and if I didn’t know it was a compilation I could have believe it was an album by one artist. A few bands that stand out are Bounded by Blood, Evile, Municipal Waste, Warbringer and Gama Bomb. These bands have something new and fresh to offer and I believe they have potential. THRASHING LIKE A MANIAC is a good way to get an overview of a growing genre that’s about to peak. If you buy the album you’ll get a thrash fanzine that includes interviews with all the bands. The album is also gonna be released on vinyl and I can strongly recommend this compilation to anyone interested in the new talents in the thrash metal scene.
