Quite a high rating for is really just a compilation but JJ and his team at Scrape Records in Vancouver Canada are truly metal warriors who are working to put other bands besides SYL and Annihilator on the Western Coast metal map.
They choose an interesting move to package these19 songs disc in a DVD package. On one hand I don’t like it because it doesn’t physically fit in my collection! However, I guess that is the point, it draws attention, I’m always noticing it, so it serves the purpose. Another very cool and original element to the packaging is the concept of having everything listed as a menu. Very clever. For example the song times 3:45 are listed as prices $3.45 and so on. There are Main Courses, Beverages, Appetizers and so on. There is an unreleased bonus track by Ocean Machine for Dessert. The packaging could have been a little better in terms of maybe a photo or brief liner note about each act but full contact info is included so that meets the basic, minimum requirement.
Bands covered on this sampler run the entire range from the death-porno grind of Zuckuss, the insane parody thrash of Zimmer’s Hole, the wicked evil Maiden meets thrash meets dungeons and dragons lyrics of Three Inches of Blood to the classic old school pounding metal of the mighty THOR! This sampler goes a long way to showing the world that the Vancouver area is a heavy hitter in developing underground acts into world-class bands.
I fully suggest you contact Scrape and order this disc and get a truly great representation of what is happening out there and one day you will have bragging rights. As Scrape Records grows ever bigger and these bands get signed and you too can hold up your copy and say, “Look, I’m cool! I was an original fan!” I know I will be.
