The task has fallen to me again to review the latest in a string of compilations from Germany’s leading Progressive Metal Webzine. This compilation is the third installment in the series that helps to spread the word about some of the new up and coming progressive bands on the music scene. First up is Boston based Yorkshire with the track "The Book, The Mirror and the Maiden". This is a very laid back song with a very 70s feel. The Dutch band Nangyala is comprised of members of the Pink Project. A group who got together to preform Pink Floyd’s THE WALL live in 1995. Some of the members wanted to carry on with a band and formed Nangyala. The version of their song "Paragon" included here is an edit. The original lasts over 12 minutes. Even though this is a very short version of that song it manages to be both atmospheric and powerful at the same time. Tunnelvison up the metal ante on the track "Reach The Moon". This is the heaviest of the tracks on the disc so far and one of the best. The band is from Finland and play a more progressive metal with a touch of powermetal thrown in for good measure. This song is from their release WHILE THE WORLD WAITS which is avaliable on Angular records. Transcendence provide one of the more straight forward and catchy tunes of the disc in the form of "Step By Step". The song is from the bands 2000 release NATURAL. One of the more intersteing traits of this band is that they use a violin to great extent. Its addition adds an interesting dimension to the song. A familiar name rears its head next. The California band Prototype chime in with their track "Trinity". These guys are a metal band that plays with slight progressive tendencies. Quite the opposite from most of the other bands on this disc whose progressive music only leans into the metal spectrum. This is quite an interesting track as the band has moved to an even more progressive sound than I have heard from them on past releases. Its sounds like it is a good choice. Canadian band Mystery add their track "Beneath The Veil of Winter’s Face". At times this song brings to mind another Canadian band by the name of Rush. Mystery can be found on Unicorn Records.



At 15 songs the cross section of progressive music on this CD is excellent. There is everything from soft atmospheric prog rock to almost jazz influenced percussion heavy rock to prog metal.
