Vader
And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw
December 2007
Released: n/a, Metal Mind Productions
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Simon Lukic

Having witnessed the Polish power house in action in Australia this year I was keen to get my hands on a copy of AND BLOOD WAS SHED IN WARSAW. Would the intensity and bludgeoning atmosphere transfer itself onto the small screen? Or would I be left thinking it was a waste of my time which is something that has been happening a lot lately. Well I should not have been concerned because AND BLOOD WAS SHED IN WARSAW – Vader’s third home “video”, is a professional package chock full of extras and a strong live show.

Let’s begin with the guts of the DVD – the performance which was shot in Poland in February of this year. What you get is a great set list, solid presentation and professional production values, especially the light show which add to the gig making for entertaining viewing. With home ground advantage, the band certainly delivers and makes AND BLOOD WAS SHED IN WARSAW everything a fan would want it to be. “ShadowFear” gets the ball rolling and from there it’s hit after pushing hit. If anything it must be said that the crowd could have shown a little more enthusiasm but that’s the way it goes.

What about the extras you say? Well, a couple of video clips "Sword of the Witcher - taken from the RPG game "The Witcher" and "Helleluyah (God Is Dead)" cover that end with the usual photo gallery, band history and discography etc rounding things off nicely. The highlight for me though is the accompanying interview with band leader Peter. It’s an intelligent piece and Peter handles all the questions in an honest and thoughtful manner. Touching on topics that range from a wonderful tribute to his late band mate Krzysztof "Doc" Raczkowski to his role as band leader and Vader’s hard working attitude, it provides the viewer with great insight into the band.

So there you have it. If you’re a fan of the band get AND BLOOD WAS SHED IN WARSAW because you’ll enjoy it – I have no doubt about that it. Those of you who are still unaware of the band should see this DVD as a good a place to start, as it not only serves as a solid introduction but shows the band in an environment where they truly reign – the live arena.
