Tesla
Real to Reel 2
December 2007
Released: 2007, Ryko Rating: 4.5/5 Reviewer: Celtic Bob Tesla is one of the most consistent bands in the Hard Rock and (to some) Metal field. They never fail to release a quality package of material. In the past maybe an album or two haven’t sold as well as previous efforts BUT they were still solid releases. Originally the only way to get this CD was to buy a concert ticket. Now that the tour is over the disc is finally available to those of us that weren’t fortunate enough to have Tesla play close to our area. Here are 12 songs from the same sessions as the original REAL TO REEL disc. This dozen tracks are more of the group’s favorites from years gone by. This one contains popular songs from the likes of Mott The Hoople, Aerosmith, The Stones, Sabbath and more. Unlike the first release this disc has no obscure or b sides on it, just popular radio tracks from the bands. One of the standout tracks on this disc is their version of “Saturday Night Special” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Tesla beefed up this already great rocker and added their own ‘sound’ to it. Jeff’s voice suits this song to a T as his rasp maintains some of that Southern Rock feel and making it sound un-doctored. The disc is mixed well and it sounds heavy and solid. Nothing is drowned out or too loud in the mix. Even though they never wrote these songs they still have that signature Tesla sound to it. A great companion to the previously issued REAL TO REEL. Hope to hear a new studio album in the coming year chock full of originals with Tommy back on board. ![]()
