Ten have always been a huge favourite here at Metal-Rules.com. There steady stream of timeless and classic melodic Metal albums over the years has always caught the ears of a variety reviewers from around the world, with their albums very rarely being awarded a score of anything less than four out of five. In my review of FAR BEYOND THE WORLD from 2002 I said the band are the leaders of UK melodic Metal. Twelve years and five albums later those words are still as true as when I wrote them back in 2002.
ALBION is the bands 11th studio album and somehow, impossibly, they seem to be getting better. Not too much has changed, but the band is now on Rocktopia Records and all the songs were written by Gary Hughes. The classic logo is firmly in place and the album cover features another deadly chick. The band has recently added Steve Grocott and Dann Rosingana on guitar giving the band a triple guitar attack. The band is now a seven-piece!
ALBION is a phenomenal album. Gary’s voice is in top shape and the songs are as strong as ever. I don’t believe that the band has ever done a poor album but ALBION seems to have just a touch more fire. Even the ballad ‘Love Takes The Long Way home’ is inspired. Ten balance the keyboards with crunchy guitars perfectly and the drumming keeps things lively. All the songs are pretty simple in construction, all of them in the five-minute range with an eye on a good chorus and a few excellent riffs with strong harmonies and melodies. The band continue to deliver song after song of Melodic Hard Rock/Metal with class and ease.
Next year is the bands 20th anniversary and they are striding towards that benchmark with confidence riding one of the strongest albums in their career.
