Ted Poley
Beyond The Fade
October 2016
Released: 2016, Frontiers Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Waspman

Once and current Danger Danger vocalist Ted Poley is no stranger to solo work, having released two previous efforts in 2006’s COLLATERAL DAMAGE and the following year’s SMILE. The man is a perfect fit for the Frontiers Records stable of artists and to that end, for this third solo album, he’s teamed up with song writers extraordinaire, and brothers, Tom and James Martin (Vega), and overall Frontiers Records man about town Alessandro Del Vecchio.

The results are fully predictable, in that BEYOND THE FADE is a high-quality hard rock album that is sure to please fans of the aforementioned bands, and ‘80s rock in general. Poley’s still got a charming & charismatic voice, and the Martin brothers have penned a batch of songs that are filled with deep hooks, sing-along choruses, and tasty guitar work. What’s not to love? Whether it’s the high octane party rock of opener “Let’s Start Something” or the heartfelt balladry of “The Perfect Crime” (a duet with fellow Frontiers artist, Issa), Poley is in top form. My personal favorites are the upbeat rockers, particularly “Higher” and the incredibly catchy “Sirens”; cuts where the guitar takes the centre stage.

Albums like this would have had the potential to be huge hits in the late ‘80s / early ‘90s, but sadly the mainstream has long since moved on. We can spend all day lamenting that fact or we can simply enjoy the fact that this type of music is still being made by artists who care That said, excuse me while I go crank up the “Sirens” on more time…
