Ted Nugent
Love Grenade
October 2007
Released: 2007, Eagle Records
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Uncle Ted is at it again. This has to be the heaviest album he has ever recorded. The guitars are distorted to perfection and vocally he just nails it. This high energy, raw heavy rock is just what you need to kick your ass and jumpstart your day. Over the years Ted has released some killer tunes and a couple of duds but this is beyond killer, it’s over the top intense and not for the weak.

Starting out with the brutally intense title track Ted just wails on the guitar with no sign of slowing down….and he doesn’t. All 13 tracks here are in your face guitar driven heavy rockers, even the updated “Journey To The Center Of The Mind” which Ted did originally 40 years ago with the Amboy Dukes. There is no stopping this man or even slowing him down. The title of the 2nd song sums up Ted perfectly: “Still Raising Hell”. This HAS to be his autobiographical song as lyrically it describes him to the T. On “Funk U” there is some wicked double bass drumming that rivals any of the heavier Metal bands out there today. Tommy just lets loose on the kit and helps push Ted to make the songs some of the fastest and heaviest of his lengthily career. In true Uncle Ted fashion we get titles like “Geronimo & Me”, “Spirit Of The Buffalo” and “Bridge Over Troubled Daughters”. Always one for historic and native American themes as well as ones of a sexual nature. Ending off the disc is “Lay With Me” which is bluesy with a whole lot of grit and raunch. It’s just soaked with emotion and attitude.

This is possibly the Nuge’s strongest disc in years. It will stand up and hold it’s own against anything he’s done previously. Clearly one of the greatest discs released this year. One that you can’t help but cranking up to ear bleed volume.
