The Sons Of The Darkness
February 2009
Released: 2008, Abyss Records
Rating: 1.0/5
Reviewer: Bruce Sanchez

THE SONS OF DARKNESS is a re-issue of Thunderbolt’s first album back in 2001. With the band no longer in existence, no doubt it has resurfaced as a testament to the band’s legacy. It's some kind of Holy Grail to black metal fans, but it looks like a chipped, wooden cup to me.

This is what happens when emo kids start believing in Satan. Take these lyrics for example, “Autumn has spread its grey, depressing wings / The forest is going to wither again”. It sounds like the beginning of a bad vampire novel, or poetry kids write in 8th grade. But not all is gloomy on this album; there is a hint at hope. Yes, the songs foretell the coming of a better time, the day that Aryan Supremacy reigns. Plus there's double bass drumming, and screaming. Neat!

There’s nothing on this album that sounds extraordinary. It’s typical black metal not done to any extravagant degree. So if you missed it the first time around, well, you didn’t really miss anything.
