Tornado
Tornado
January 2002
Released: 2001, Independent
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Waspman

This CD arrived in my mailbox with no fanfare whatsoever (What, you don’t have trumpets signaling the arrival of your mail?) and contains absolutely no info on the band at all. So, guys if you’re out there and you read this, send me some contact info and I’ll add it to this review.

Anyway, Tornado is another entry into the power metal wars, and not a very original one at that, so points lost right away. Still, power metal is an incestuous genre on its best days so with these bands it’s the strength of the songs that really count, and Tornado has some kick ass songs.

The disc starts off beautifully with 4 kickass tunes of war, “Coming of the King” and “Black Swan Rider” being the best. Each of the 4 has great melodies, vocals, and solos. In fact, I’m guessing that the band is lead by its guitarist as there are 2 instrumentals on this disc, one of which is almost 20 min. long(!).

Anyway, after initial opening salvo, the disc loses some of its “oomph”, with some weaker songs, but it does close with another corker, “Triumph of the King”. Sure, there’s nothing here that you haven’t heard before, but there are some damn good songs on this disc, regardless of originality. Good stuff.
