Feral Creation
March 2008
Released: 2008, Mighty Music/Target Distribution
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

After a really long time, Danish death metal act Thorium has gotten their act together and returned from their long break. The band was formed in 1997 with one purpose only – to play loud, old-school death metal. Two years later they went to the Griegshalle Studio in Bergen, Norway to record their debut album, OCEANS OF BLASPHEMY. Two years later they released UNLEASHING THE DEMONS, after which the band was put to rest but now, six years later it’s time to bring back the beast.

Listening to Thorium’s music brings you back to the good old death metal days. They still deliver the same sweet aggressive death metal and despite the old-school style the production has been updated for the 21st century. Combine early Entombed, Grave and Unleashed and you have Thorium.

All of the 11 songs pass by at a furious tempo and there’s no way you have time to catch your breath during the perfect 40 minutes the album runs. I love old-school death metal and I love the music Thorium deliver in FERAL CREATION. The entire album is impressive and it’s extremely hard to pick any killer tracks.

Berno Studio was used for the recording and the mixing and mastering was done by Jacob Hansen. When it comes to the production, there’s nothing to be negative about. It’s a massive black wall of brutal death metal and at the top of the mix the soaring vocals are bleeding through with such nerve and energy I get weak.

Thorium is back with a deadly attack called FERAL CREATION and I think they’re ready to conquer the world and destroy the non-believers. I salute these Danish musicians and hope for many albums for many years to come.
