Tourettes Syndrome
Sicksense
March 2007
Released: 2006, Armageddon Music/Sound Pollution Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Anders Sandvall Tourettes Syndrome hails from Australia and has previously released two albums on an independent label. The simplest way to describe their music would be riff-based grinding metal in a slow tempo. Lead singer Michelle sounds almost like a man when she sings and reminds me sometimes of Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) when it comes to vocal range and expressing the lyrics. There are faster passages sprinkled throughout the songs and the music sometimes borders on pure death metal. The entire band is skilled in every possible way and the material is solid throughout the whole album. Killer tracks on SICKSENSE are “Fracture”, “R.F.S”, “Rail”, “Circus”, and “Longline”, all of which are fast and aggressive. Michelle impresses me a great deal; she has a very versatile voice despite its masculine approach. The only major problem I have with this album is the very similar songs; aside from the few killer tracks there aren’t many great songs. It wouldn’t hurt for the band to focus a little more on the lyrics next time, because they already master the music. As it is now, it all blends together and nothing really stands out. The band name is another thing you could question, but I’m not going to review that aspect. Tourettes Syndrome has released a solid but even album. To get a jackpot with their next album, they have to write stronger songs. SICKSENSE is a great way of killing an hour, but after that hour you’ve had enough. http://www.soundpollution.se ![]()
